For many months now, Mr. Donald J. Trump has been the front-runner for the Republican Party. I am writing this because I think it is entirely possible at this point that Mr. Trump may win the popular vote.  In almost every poll that has been taken recently, he is winning by a landslide. Many Americans are simply wondering just how it could be possible for an individual like Mr. Trump with absolutely no political experience to become the POTUS.

Back in November, I wrote an article on my thoughts on the race. Obviously, there have been some changes, both minor and major. This piece now is being written only a few days before the Iowa Caucus, so some predictions could come true shortly.

I never thought that Senator Bernie Sanders would suddenly pull ahead of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in certain polls, including a few from Iowa. One may ask: “How is it possible that a self-proclaimed Socialist can win the nomination for the Democratic Party?” Let me address this issue right now. Many people Americans are losing hope in Secretary Clinton. Many say she cannot be trusted.  Mishandling classified information is no small matter. In fact, as this is being written, the Obama Administration has just confirmed that there is “top secret” information within Mrs. Clinton’s emails. Once again, mishandling classified information is a big deal; in fact, it is a crime.  There you have it.  This is why Senator Sanders is gaining a larger following.

On January 28th, the final debate for the Republican Party was held before the Iowa Caucuses that will take place on Monday, February 1st. The big news headline was that Mr. Trump did not attend the debate. He has an ongoing feud with Fox news, especially with journalist Megyn Kelly. At the first debate, the very first question she asked was, “Mr. Trump, one of the things people love about you is you speak your mind and you don’t use a politician’s filter. However, that is not without its downsides, in particular, when it comes to women. You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.” It is quite understandable as to how this war was started.  He forfeited the debate because he felt that he has not been treated fairly by Fox.

With Trump not in attendance, the debate received the second lowest ratings so far for GOP televised programs. Where was Mr. Trump? He held a fundraiser for veterans at Drake University. In fact, in that single day, $6,000,000 was raised for veterans. Both Governor Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum made appearances at the event.

So, why are people attracted to Trump? My opinion is that American are fed up with the politicians in DC and do not like the way things are currently being run. It is a fresh breath of air for many to hear an individual talking about making better trade agreements, taking care of the veterans, tackling the issue of immigration, creating jobs, fixing our tax code, etc. Mr. Trump is a self-made billionaire and runs the Trump Organization. Many people think that being able to employ thousands of people could translate to success for the country.

He has also recently received some endorsements, including former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin and President of Russia Vladimir Putin, believe it or not.  In fact, Putin said, “He is a very outstanding person, talented, without any doubt.”

Having a right to vote is one of our best freedoms that we have in my opinion.  It is the responsibility of us, the American people, to elect the best President of the United States.  To all reading: go out and vote!  May the best candidate win.
